Enlightra x Nokia Bell Labs

Enlightra and Nokia Bell Labs have joined forces to rethink optical transmitters, unveiling a comb-based WDM design that removes the need for wavelength tuning. Recognized with a prestigious post-deadline paper at OFC 2025, this work showcases the power of integrated photonics for the next generation of high-capacity communication systems.

Enlightra x Nokia Bell Labs

We are excited to announce the outcome of a successful research collaboration between Enlightra and Nokia Bell Labs, which was recognized with a post-deadline paper at OFC 2025. The paper was presented by Dr. Di Che of Nokia Bell Labs on April 3, 2025.

In this joint research effort, we introduced a novel comb-based coherent wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) transmitter that eliminates the need for individual wavelength control. This is accomplished by applying a series of time delays to power-split copies of an optical frequency comb. The proposed transmitter architecture integrates Enlightra’s silicon nitride frequency comb technology with a silicon I/Q modulator array, offering a streamlined and scalable path toward the monolithic integration of optical frequency combs and modulator arrays on a single photonic chip.

This work represents a significant step toward compact, energy-efficient, and high-capacity optical communication systems.
