Enlightra x DARPA-funded GRYPHON project

Enlightra advances ultra-stable optical frequency combs for DARPA’s GRYPHON project, integrating crystalline microresonators with photonic wire bonds to achieve record-low phase noise and pave the way for next-gen frequency references.

 Enlightra x DARPA-funded GRYPHON project

As part of the DARPA-funded GRYPHON project, Enlightra developed ultra-stable frequency references based on optical frequency combs generated in magnesium fluoride crystalline microresonators. The key innovation derives from the integration of photonic wire bonds (PWBs), geometrically versatile and mechanically robust light-guiding structures, with these high-Q (> 1 billion) devices. We generate soliton microcombs with -123 dBc/Hz phase noise at 10 kHz offset from a 14.2 GHz carrier, and provide a route towards combining scalable PIC platforms with high-performance crystalline technologies.
